Garden Club of IRC Donates $10,000 to Shining Light Garden
The Garden Club of Indian River County partnered with Jasmine Circle to underwrite the purchase and installation of a new refrigeration system to keep the produce from spoiling as it awaits distribution. Several other Circles have also recently donated to the garden, including Allamanda, Poinsettia and Rose Circles.
Both the Garden Club of Indian River County and its nine circles have been consistent donors to Shining Light Garden. Indeed, many members of the Circles regularly volunteer there.
Shining Light Garden was founded by Joel Bray in Winter Beach, FL, in 2008. It began as a backyard project and has expanded into a 20-acre farm. The mission is to provide fresh vegetables and fruit to those who are hungry in the community. There is also a flower garden whose bounty brings cheer to those in need. Shining Light is a volunteer organization and 100% of all donations are used in the garden. A skilled grower, Joel produces an array of crops annually.
We will post a full photo album of our visit and their property to share with all of you so you can learn more about their amazing work!

Founder, Joel Bray, graciously let one of our members from Seagrape Circle, Bonnie Pfiester, freely explore the grounds to learn more about what they do. Here are a few photos she took while we was there.
